Well, ‘tis the season. It’s time for you to pull out your credit card and start your holiday shopping. You’ve probably got a list of people that you have to get gifts for and a list of things that you’re considering getting for those people. Maybe you’ve got a whole list on your online shopping website of choice.

You’re probably thinking that you’ve got this in the bag. You’ve been giving gifts for years. You probably know what you need to get her in order to show your affection. Especially if you can’t be there yourself. You’ve probably already gotten a few gifts from Colombia that she’s sent you and you want to reciprocate.

But there are a few gifts that you should absolutely avoid when you’re trying to find a gift for your lady love. Like coffee. Remember that she’s Colombian, she lives in Colombia. She can go to her local coffee shop and get higher-quality coffee than whatever powdered swill you can find at your local supermarket. So if you’re looking for Colombian gifts online or in-store, maybe don’t even look at coffee.

Clothes

You probably think that getting her clothes is a win-win. You get her something nice that she can wear and she gets something nice to wear. So you probably think that clothes make sense as gifts for Colombian women.

Well, you’d be wrong. A lot of Colombian women are very stylish and very persnickety about their appearance. Sure, they might make it look somewhat easy but there’s effort that goes into it. You may not have the best eye when it comes to style. Maybe you get something with stripes when her personal style emphasizes solids.

And let’s not get started on sizes. Women’s sizes, unlike men’s, are all over the place. For example, she might say she’s a size 6, but that size may only apply to a single brand.

You might get her a size 6 from another brand and it’ll be too small, which is going to do a number on her self-esteem. Or it’ll be too big, in which case you will probably catch some hell from her.

Perfume

Perfume occupies a similar space as clothing does. It’s part of a woman’s outward presentation, just olfactory instead of visual. But it’s still an important part of the presentation. So unless you know exactly which perfume your woman wears, it’s best to err on the side of caution and get her something else.

Anything that’s actually for you

Do you live with your partner and you want to get a new TV but can’t yet justify that kind of expense? But you still want to get one with an 80-inch screen and a 4K Ultra HD resolution before your sports season of choice starts? Has the idea of getting the TV ostensibly as a gift for your partner but you’d actually be using it entered your mind? Well, get it out of there. Seriously, perish the thought.

When you’re giving a gift, it’s the thought that counts. But if the only thought you had was your own enjoyment, then you weren’t really thinking at all.

Any kind of sportswear or exercise equipment

A lot of Colombian women put in a lot of effort when it comes to their appearance. So a lot of them exercise regularly. But if you get them anything that’ll help them exercise, unless they specifically ask for it, your intentions could be easily misconstrued.

She may think that you’re hinting that you want her to exercise more, which is going to either hurt her feelings or piss her off. Either way, your Christmas won’t be all that merry. So maybe hold off on the sportswear.

Of course, if you might think that if she has a hobby that’s athletic, like running, then maybe you can get her something that’ll help her with it, like arch-supporting socks or something like that. But maybe don’t get her socks for Christmas. Socks are more of an everyday gift and Christmas is not the occasion for everyday gifts.

In fact, steer away from gifts that are practical. You can buy her practical stuff any old time. Christmas is supposed to be special, so make sure to get her something that is special and won’t make her feel like she’s not enough.

A vacuum cleaner or some other household appliance

Do you want to hurt someone’s feelings or piss them off? Well, get them something that is used for household chores, like a vacuum cleaner or a washing machine. Because that’s going to imply that you want her to do all of the housework.

Sure, she might end up doing the bulk of the housekeeping, but saying it outright by getting her a mop for Christmas is only to put a strain on her feelings for you.

Any kind of gag gift

A gag gift is a gift that you give someone because you think that it’d be funny for them to receive it, especially if they have to unwrap it in front of guests. Gag gifts are great for things like baby showers and the birthday parties of really, really good friends.

But Christmas with a significant other? Not a chance. Trying to be funny on what should be a special and sentimental holiday isn’t going to endear you to her. So don’t try to be funny on Christmas. A pet

A lot of people get their loved ones pets for Christmas or other special occasions. But they may not be the best of ideas.

A lot of pets that are gifted as Christmas gifts end up at a shelter around January and February because the people who received them weren’t ready for the responsibility of being a pet owner.

If you do want to get her a pet as a Christmas gift, then make sure that she wants a pet and is ready to take care of it. Because otherwise, no one ends up happy.
